The term “Vara Mahalakshmi” translates to “the boon-giver Mahalakshmi.” On this day, married women across regions adorn themselves in vibrant traditional attire and jewellery, invoking the goddess’s blessings for the well-being and prosperity of their families. 

Rituals and Celebrations 

1. Preparation: Homes are cleaned and adorned with colourful rangoli designs. Flowers, mango leaves, and traditional decorations create an atmosphere of festivity. 

2. Goddess’s Idol or Image: An idol or image of Goddess Mahalakshmi is placed on an altar adorned with jewellery, flowers, and fruits, symbolizing her divine presence. 

3. Pooja and Offerings: Elaborate rituals involve offering prayers, chanting mantras, and invoking the goddess’s blessings. Sweets, fruits, and traditional dishes are offered as prasadam. 

4. Thread Preparation: Married women create and tie sacred threads, known as “Dara,” around their right wrists. These threads carry the blessings of the goddess. 

5. Feasting and Gifting: Families come together to share a sumptuous feast, and gifts are exchanged to celebrate the joyous occasion.
